One of the leaders around the world in medical systems is BD Medical. BD Syringes are known around the globe as being easy-to-use. The medical profession also considers their products to be of high quality. The ethics magazine Ethisphere, has included BD in its World’s Most Ethical Companies list since the inauguration of this list in 2007. The company has a long history in terms of both its existence and its ability to remain ethically minded.
History Begins
In 1897, two men met by chance while on a sales trip. They were Maxwell W. Becton and Fairleigh S. Dickinson. This chance encounter was to result in the founding of Becton, Dickinson & Co. Their intent was for the company to import medical devices into the United States. Towards this goal, they even developed a log or trademark for the new venture. The logo “BD” first appeared in 1899.
The early years were characterized by hard work and eventually acquisitions as the company became more grounded financially. The first occurred in 1904 followed by a merger in 1913 and another in 1921. All were intended to help the company grow and thrive in this market. Each merger obtained them access to new markets and/or new products.
Growth in the 1920s
Several medical advances followed the second merger in 1921. In 1924, BD manufactured its first insulin injection syringe. Others including the BD Yale Luer-Lok Syringe followed these BD syringes in 1925. These types of BD syringes set a standard for the industry. They provided a safe and secure means of attaching and detaching the needle to the syringe.
Modern Times
From the 1940s through to the 19190s, BD came out with a number of different medical supplies, diagnostic products and laboratory equipment. The company continued to evolve and grow. Its markets and manufacturers had expanded beyond North America into South America and Europe. The company went Public and were listed on the New York Stock Exchange in 1963.
BD syringes continued to maintain high standards. The company came out with the first entirely disposable syringe in 1954 for use in the Salk Polio Trials. This was followed up by the BD Plastipak syringe a totally disposable syringe product in 1962. By 1988, they had produced the first Safety-Engineered Syringe. They are planning to release generic prefilled injectable BD syringes and other products in the coming years.
BD syringes are part of an ethical medical products company. In business for over a hundred years, BD Medical continues to serve the public and health systems. During all this time, they have never failed to provide high quality and safe products. If you require BD Syringes, consider what we can offer you.
