Keratin treatments and Brazilian blowouts are two of the most popular treatments used to straighten and smooth your hair without causing any damage to the hair follicles. These smoothing treatments are focused on repairing damage, removing frizz and improving the entire appearance of your hair.
You can eliminate up to 95 percent of the frizz in your hair, while adding shine and keeping your hair manageable and healthy with these treatment options. However, determining which of the two options is right for you can be a challenging task. Prior to making a decision between a Keratin treatment and Brazilian Blowout, take time to research the application process and how each one can improve the overall condition of your hair.
The Brazilian Blowout
The Brazilian Blowout is a type of keratin treatment offering a smoothing effect to unruly hair. During the process, the hair is shampooed and then dried with a towel. The actual product will then be applied starting at the roots. Once the product has been applied, the hair is blow dried and flat ironed, which allows the proteins to bond to the cuticles of the hair, ensuring they are protected from damage.
Once this process is completed, the hair is rinsed until removed and a layer of conditioner is applied, left to sit for one minute and then the hair is blow dried one last time.
The Keratin Treatment
The keratin treatment is extremely similar to a Brazilian blowout with a few specific differences. Once the Keratin treatment is applied to your hair, you will have to wear a cap for a period of 20 to 30 minutes in order to allow the product to fully penetrate the hair shaft, which will improve the results that are seen. The next step is to keep the product on your hair for a period of three days, prior to rinsing it, and the hair must be kept completely flat, or there may be dents and impressions made in your hair.
What Option is Right for You?
While the chemicals and applications processes are similar, there are a few factors that differentiate these treatments from each other. Due to the allegations of formaldehyde in Brazilian Blowouts, Keratin treatments are often preferred. However, there are small amounts of formaldehyde in the Keratin to enhance the bonding process.
Both options provide exceptional results and it may be a process of trial and error to discover which one works best on your hair.
