You will need to complete one hundred venipunctures and five capillary punctures successfully in order to qualify for your exam. Once you have completed these requirements you will be able to take your exam and become a certified phlebotomist. You will be qualified to work in any clinic, hospital and laboratory. If the position you accept is in a clinic or laboratory you will be stationed in a room that has all your necessary equipment and you will draw blood from the patients while they are sitting in a Blood Drawing chair. If you select a job in the hospital, you will have all your necessary equipment on a cart and you will be notified of which patients you must see to draw blood.

No matter where you decide to work your job will be very important. You will need to make the patients you see comfortable, especially if they are little children or scared of needles. Doctors will depend on you to get the blood the first time, making sure they are labeled correctly is extremely important and can mean the difference between life and death, as the blood can tell almost anything about a person and if they have any life threatening illnesses.
