The BCM-95 and Alzheimer’s connection

Alzheimer’s disease is a form of dementia that gets worse over time and affects memory and behaviour. Alzheimer’s disease is characterized by protein deposits in the brain called plaques and tangles that destroy and result in the death of neurons. Although it is natural to develop plaques with age, those who suffer from Alzheimer’s are known to have much more of them. There is scientific evidence to indicate that some of the risk factors of Alzheimer’s may be inherited.

Curcumin, the most active ingredient in turmeric, known for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, is beneficial for those suffering from Alzheimer’s and also for those who run the risk of Alzheimer’s disease.

Inflammation is known to be one of the principle contributors to Alzheimer’s. Inflammatory cells called cytokines play a role in the quick progression of Alzheimer’s. Curcumin’s anti-inflammatory properties inhibit the activity of the inflammation causing COX-2 enzyme, and prevents the progression of Alzheimer’s disease.

Research results on curcumin and the brain show that curcumin promotes new brain cell growth, particularly in the hippocampus, the house of memory in the brain. Curcumin also protects brain cells – its antioxidant properties prevent brain cell deterioration. Curcumin has the ability to counter the beta-amyloid protein that contributes to the formation of plaques and tangles. Most importantly, curcumin not only prevents Alzheimer’s but also improves memory in those diagnosed with the disease.

Despite its many benefits, the effectiveness of curcumin in the form of oral supplementation has been limited by its poor absorption into the bloodstream. For curcumin to effectively counter Alzheimer’s and other diseases that stem from inflammation, it must be bio-available, which means its benefits should be amplified though absorption in the bloodstream.

BCM-95™, a 100 percent standardized extract of turmeric, is a bio-available form of curcumin and amplifies curcumin’s efficacy. A patented process delivers this superior-absorbing curcumin formulation which is seven to 10 times more bio-available than regular curcumin extracts. BCM-95™ remains in the bloodstream for eight to 10 hours.

Studies have shown the effectiveness of BCM-95™ in keeping the brain healthy, and delaying the progression of Alzheimer’s.
