It seems everywhere you go, you hear of someone (famous or not) who have breast implants or are considering them. It may have woken up an urge to consider the various types available, whether you are interested in augmentation or not. There are three primary options available, but you can choose variances within those types.
Saline
Saline options are usually filled with sterile salt water. The FDA has approved these implant options for women aged 18 or older. Many women prefer this type because if the shell ruptures or leaks, the saline is safe for the body and will be absorbed and expelled naturally.
However, it will collapse, so you’ll need to go back to the plastic surgeon and have it removed or repaired.
Silicone
Silicone is another implant type, where the silicone shell is filled with silicone gel. This option is also approved by the FDA for women 22 years of age and older. Many women prefer this choice because it feels like the natural breasts, but it does have limitations. However, implant leaks can cause a little more problems because the gel is not formulated to stay in the body out of the shell. If a leak occurs, it won’t deflate the implant, making it difficult to tell there’s a problem. For this reason, you will need to visit your surgeon periodically to ensure everything is functioning right.
Gummy Bear
A gummy bear implant is the newest option and is made from form-stable gel. They got their name because of the traditional candy. Gummy Bears will hold their shape when cut, which is similar to how the implant works.
The gel is thicker than a traditional silicone gel and will be firmer. Therefore, they are considered to be slightly safer than traditional silicone and will offer the most natural appearance.
Silicone and saline options are round, but these are shaped to have a higher profile near the bottom that tapers toward the top.
Round Vs. Shaped
Shaped versions can offer a more natural appearance, but they can turn inside the body, causing a strange look. Round breast implants can make your bust appear fuller than form-stable options. If you are going for a high-profile implant (more projection from the body), you’ll receive the most projection with round options.
Textured Vs. Smooth
A smooth implant offers a softer-feeling breast, allowing the implant to move with the natural tissue. Textured implants are less likely to move around inside the body because the developed scar tissue sticks to the implant.
